Some Facts about High speed Limits and Car Accidents
The 2014 statistics revealed that quite some people died in car accidents or after that due to injuries from car accidents in the US. Failure to use the seatbelts, careless driving, speeding, and bad weather, are some of the reasons there are many car crashes in the US. Due to the increased rate at which the accidents occur in the US, many people including the government officials have shown interest in finding quickest solution.
At least 28 percent of car crashes can be attributed to over speeding by the vehicle owners. It is essential to note that there are rules which are set aside to regulate the road safety measures while using the roads. Since 2005, it had been proven that speeding is one of the factors that continue to make many people die before their time. Bad weather conditions, lack of good vision, careless driving, and driving under the influence, cause car crashes the means of making the drivers go beyond the speed limit.
Speed limits are always placed in strategic locations where it is necessary for drivers to mind their speed. Unfortunately, only a few people tend to obey those signs as they believe to have enough expertise in driving and should not pay attention to the road signs, they end up causing road accidents, and this is how the death toll finds its way up. It cannot be claimed that the poor roads are the major cause of accidents in the US since the Government has always attempted to ensure that all main roads are in good condition and that they are kept that way.
As a matter of fact, more than 35 percent of the fatal accidents took place on roads which are not highways. It can be concluded that most drivers tend to over speed when they notice that no one is watching them and they end up causing fatal accidents. On the other hand, only 29 percent of gross car crash happened on the highways. It is due to the availability of strict surveillance of main roads that the drivers tend to pay attention to the speed limits.
On the other hand, it has been reported that most of the car accidents today experienced were not due to speeding. Along the highways, vehicles move in high speed, and this means that the slow drivers are most likely to cause car crash hence leading to injuries and or deaths. It has been reported that 9,262 of the total lives were lost due to slow driving along the highway in 2014. It is, therefore, safe to conclude that as much as speeding is a cause of many deaths in the US, moving slowly along the highways have contributed to quite some car crashes that ended up claiming many lives.
